CUFC VS CHESTERFIELD (A) PRE-MATCH STATS

By Steven Doggett - STATMAN for YABA

Cambridge are on the road AGAIN... Yep again... It will be United’s 4th away match in the past 5 games,
and where else would you like to go on a Tuesday night? Chesterfield! Yes, the U’s are set to make the
260 mile round trip up to Chesterfield and what has been forecasted to be a damp, wet and cold night.

The U’s are quite fond of Chesterfield in recent times and are looking to do the double over the league
strugglers after their comeback at the Abbey earlier this season winning 2-1 with goals from Brown
and Uche Ikpeazu. The U’s are so fond of Chesterfield that over the last 4 matches Chesterfield have
failed to grab even a point against the U’s spanning all the way back to the year 2000. The U’s have
scored 10 goals against Chesterfield combined in their last 4 meetings which is over ⅓ of what United
have managed to score in 31 games this season. (Yes I do hear some of you chanting “Can we play
you every week” right now as you are reading this).

Chesterfield has struggled in recent years spanning back to the 2015-16 season where they finished
7 points off of the drop of league 1. Subsequently, they fell into league 2 at the end of the 2016-17
season where they finished rock bottom and 13 points away from safety. If they are not careful a club
once challenging for promotion to the Championship could fall out of the football league altogether.
Chesterfield has had a rocky season to say the least and have managed to win 22.5% of their matches
this season in the league and has seen swift exits from both the FA cup and EFL cup whilst sitting 2
points from safety.

Now let’s put the two teams head to head

Chesterfield have picked up 6 points in their last 5 games winning 2 of them where Cambridge have
managed to pick up 2 winning none.

Chesterfield have managed to scrape 5 of their 7 victories at home this season which include beating
the league leaders Luton, whereas Cambridge have managed to win 2 away from home this season
with their last league victory coming all the way back at Crewe on the 12th of September.

Both teams are relatively low scorers. Cambridge being the lowest scorers in the league on 28 goals
while Chesterfield are plodding along with 31 goals scored this campaign.

Considering Cambridge are the lowest scorers in the league their only plus is that Chesterfield has
the leakiest defence in the league conceding 55 goals which means they are conceding an average
of 1.7 goals per game.

A positive to look forward to is that United have since parted company with Shaun Derry through
mutual consent which could lead the way for a few changes in the team and could lead to a new
dynamic of football. With this we can hope to get off the bottom of the goals scored table as well as
putting 3 wins in the last 16 matches behind us.

All that is left is to see if Dunne is going to get the job Dunne against Chesterfield...
